With the help of The United Arts Council, and the generous support of our members and families, the PTA continues to bring enriching experiences to the students at Oak Grove. It is our hope that these program supplement and enhance the incredible work that the teachers and staff do at Oak Grove every day!
Last week our 2nd graders learned about sound waves, electricity and magnetism with the original songs from Zak Morgan in The Science of Sound through Musical Stories.
This week our 5th grade students will have a (virtual) Assembly, Kids Make Comics!, on Monday, December 14th. Dave McDonald will introduce students to the art of telling stories in graphic form: comics and graphic novels. Students then participate through a drawing demonstration that teaches them how simple shapes are used to create super characters, and as “building blocks” to frame up the basic shape needed to draw more complex characters. Students bring paper, pencil and their imaginations to this program and will leave with tons of ideas for creating their own characters and comic stories!
Be sure to ask your children about these fun experiences!
Starting next week, November 30th, the PTA will be bringing a week long, virtual Poetry Writer-in-Residence to our 4th graders with NC poet, author and teaching artist, Michael Beadle. The United Arts Council’s program, Artists in Schools, has generously given us a grant to help pay for this event.
Our annual book fair is underway and we wanted to share a few valuable pieces of information. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at email@example.com.
Shipping is free with purchases over $25, BUT…. this applies to books only!!! If you add a toy or game, shipping will be based on the value of your entire purchase. Our Scholastic sales rep recommends making two separate purchases – $25 or more in just books so you can get free shipping, and then a separate transaction with the any non-book items and the shipping will be determined only on the value of those items. I hope that makes sense!
Buy a book for your teacher’s classroom library! Teachers are making wish lists and I will put them on this site as I receive them. You can have the books shipped to your home and then send them in with your Plan B students or make arrangements to drop them off at school. You may also have them ship directly to the school.
Share our homepage with friends and family anywhere in the country. Books make great holiday gifts!!!
Take some time to explore the virtual fair. It’s really cool!! Explore the book cases just like we have at the in person fairs. You can look at the details of specific books shown by clicking on the picture. BUT… there are A LOT more books available through the Scholastic Store so don’t feel as if you are limited to only those shown in the cases
Amazon Prime Day is today and tomorrow. And if you log in to your Prime account at smile.amazon.com or the Amazon Smile app, OGESPTA can earn a percentage of all qualifying purchases. Just make sure that you have Oak Grove Elementary School PTA listed as your chosen charity. Thank you and happy shopping!
As a reminder, our first general membership meeting is scheduled for tonight at 6 pm via Zoom. The link can be found at the bottom of this post. If you plan on attending a PTA meeting this year, this is the one! We need at least 20 members on the call to form the quorum needed to elect our new treasurer and ratify this year’s operating budget.
In addition to the vote, we will hear from Ms Bias and Ms Rhodes, our advocacy and cultural arts chairs will update us, we will discuss volunteer opportunities and other ways in which you can support your PTA this year, and we will outline our plans for the year.
Hello Oak Grove families!
Please see the attached welcome letter from you PTA board.
Our first membership meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, September 17th at 6 pm. A link will be provided in the near future.
We hope to see you all there!!
