Fun Run Results

First of all,  I wanted to say to all of you-“Thank you for all of your support!  The PTA appreciates your time, energy, and financial help. Together we are supporting our school in ways that can ONLY be done with your support.”

To allow us to achieve our goal this year, Apex Leadership Co. became our partner. Durning the month of October, our school had 2 sessions where Apex coaches come into classes each day teaching positivity/leadership characteristics. This year’s theme was “GAME ON”. Our children learned the following themes each day:

G-Go getter-what it means to be a go getter: get to work
A- Appreciate everything around you
M-Move forward-let go of the past and grow and get better!
E-Explore-always asking questions, being curious about the world around us, not satisfied with what we already know, we want to know more!
O- Others first, recognize the needs around us and look for opportunities to serve others
N-Now what?  How do I make a positive impact? Where do we start to make a change  How can we take the next step to

During this fundraiser, together, we raised $52,305.78!!  Out of that total, our school’s profit is: $30,860.41!! (59%profit).

We truly are grateful for all of your support.

Sincerely,
Celeste Smith
OGES PTA President

Message from our Advocacy Chair

A message from our Advocacy Chair, Sarah Stoeckel:

On November 14 we will be having an Advocacy Committee meeting with a guest speaker from the Wake County Health Department.  You can learn about Michelle’s work here: http://www.wakegov.com/humanservices/publichealth/information/promotion/Pages/tobacco.aspx

She will be talking about vaping, specifically what we can do as advocates to address policy issues that can make an impact and parent messaging.  The meeting space is being donated by a church in Cary, and if you need to bring children, it is a large enough room where they could read/screen time/etc without being an issue.  Because this is a hot topic, especially among high schools, if parents or other PTA folks outside of Advocacy are interested in joining, that would be fine.  To view the National PTA stance on vaping, please go here https://www.pta.org/home/advocacy/ptas-positions/Individual-PTA-Resolutions/Resolution-on-Electronic-Cigarettes-and-Electronic-Nicotine-Delivery-Systems-ENDS-and-Youth

Details:
Wake PTA Advocacy November Meeting

Location:
Good Shepherd UCC

Fun Run Tomorrow! Final Challenges

Today’s Apex leadership habit: Asking Now What? Now that we have learned the five habits of game changing leaders, how can we put those habits into practice to leave a positive impact on the world around us? We also talked about how it takes 3 weeks to form new habits!

The final fundraising challenges are the principal challenges!  The top pledging class will get to mummify Ms Bias (wrap her up in toilet paper) and the class to make the biggest jump in pledges will slime Mr Mason!

Check out the smiles from Ms Baker’s second grade class, currently in the pledge lead :

Fun Run Update!

The Fun Run for tracks 2&4 is this Thursday! So far, our school has raised over $44,000 towards our goal of $50,000.
What do the funds raised by our Apex event pay for? Our goal this year, with your help, is to fund additional technology purchases, teacher & classroom grants, specialist grants, cultural arts programs, and more! Keep those pledges coming in!

Our donation collections are all being done online through the Apex website http://www.myapexevent.com to make the collection process easier and faster. Of course, sponsors can still pay by cash/check if they choose, we just ask that these donations be turned into the school any time before the Fun Run, so students receive credit. Thank you for your support!
