Please Link Your Harris Teeter Cards

Once again, we have been selected by Harris Teeter to participate as a bonus school in their Together in Education Program.  Harris Teeter is going to match every $100 we earn up to $2000.  This is a great opportunity for Oak Grove!  We need everyone to link (or relink, remember this is something we have to do each year) their Harris Teeter VIC cards to Oak Grove Elementary School.  Even if you have children in another school you can link your VIC card number with up to 5 schools. Our goal this year is to get a minimum of 250 linked cards for Oak Grove Elementary. You can ask neighbors, friends, and family to link their cards; you do not have to be a student to help contribute to our school.

To link your card to our school use this link and enter school code 2674. This can also be done at the store at the customer service desk. This year, we have one more way to link your card. You can cut off the top portion of your receipt that has the VIC number on it and bring it to school. We can enroll your number with our school for you. Please note that you must sign up every year to relink your card. If you haven’t done it since August, you need to do it again!

Thank you for your Otterthon support!

Booster_2-ToneStar.tagline-1Thank you so much for supporting this year’s Otterthon Fun Run! The program was a huge success and we know everyone had a lot of fun, but there’s a little more left to do.

As a school, our net proceeds will be over $35,000, if we collect 100% of our pledges! We need your help collecting all our pledges. Our goal is to collect 100% of all pledges by Tuesday, September 27th, 2016.

Please encourage your child to thank all their sponsors. Pledges can be paid by cash, check or credit card online on (if available).

If an email address was entered with the original pledge on, your sponsor will receive an email reminder to fulfill their pledge. If not, they can mail cash or check to you and you can send it all into the school with your child’s collection envelope.

Thank you again for making our 1st Otterthon Fun Run a huge success!

Otterthon Fun Run is next Monday!

Our students in Tracks 2, 3, and 4 will be running in the Otterthon Fun Run to raise money for Oak Grove. The Boosterthon event has been a success so far, and we’re over 86% of the way towards our $25,000 goal. Way to go, kids! Come out on Monday, September 19th, 2016 to root for your students, and be sure to spread the word to family members, neighbors, and friends. Thanks to everyone for supporting our school!

The kids have been learning about character traits such as integrity, honesty, and caring during their team “huddles.” They are having fun and getting excited (and getting some exercise as well!). Also, don’t forget about the Oak Grove Marathon! Your student can log their mileage from the Otterthon next Monday.

Boosterthon Kick Off!

We’re so excited to have Boosterthon help us with our fundraising goals this year. Oak Grove has set a goal of $25,000 that will go towards our literacy program, school improvements and health and wellness. We are already off to a fantastic start. Our school is almost 35% to goal, just 3 days in! Let’s keep the momentum going and encourage all your friends and family to make a donation. The Fun Run is a great way to keep our kids physically active, while helping their school at the same time. Thank you so much for your support!

Track 1 has their Fun Run tomorrow, Thursday, September 8th, 2016 and Tracks 2, 3, and 4 will have their run on Monday, September 19th, 2016. We need some volunteers for September 8th, and you can sign up on SignUp Genius. Stay tuned for a volunteer link for September 19th.

We had a great pep rally last week, and you can see some of our excitement below!

A Note from our Box Tops Coordinator

Welcome back to school, parents! My name is Barbara Cornetta and I’m thrilled to be our school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! This may not seem like much, but it really adds up! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them, make sure they are not expired, and send them to school.

Last school year, we earned $ 700 for our school from Box Tops and used the money towards new curtains for our gym. This school year we think we can do even better, our goal is to earn $1,000. We need your help to make this happen.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors can also help our school by getting their Box Tops to you. This is an easy way for them to help earn money for our school without having to write a check! There is a BoxTops Mailbox in the school lobby, please drop off your neatly clipped and not expired BoxTops daily. Soon you will be able to find collection sheets in the mailbox which allows you to glue your boxtops directly on to a sheet; keeping things neat and organized.

For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.

Thanks for your help!
Barbara Cornetta

Seeking Volunteer Readers for Otter Literacy Program

2014_OG-LearningThe Otter Literacy Program is a wonderful volunteer program that allows parents to spend about 30 minutes in the classroom once a month reading a pre-selected book and engaging students in follow-up discussion. Students learn about character traits (courage, loyalty, justice, honesty, respect, etc.) through a collection of enriching and beautifully-written stories. Within each book is a helpful guide with questions intended to initiate thoughtful discussions about the stories and the students’ personal connections to the topics.

To volunteer for OLP, please email Erin Juricak with your name, track and child’s teacher. You will then receive additional information and links to SignUp Genius.

You must have current WCPSS volunteer clearance to participate. Thank you!
